One Planet Festival - October 9th-12th 2008

Sustainability Exposition - Lancaster Town Hall - Saturday Oct. 11th (10am - 4pm)

Big thank you to all the Exhibitors who filled all our slots in such a colourful and engaging way!

Lancaster’s first Sustainability Exposition

The Ashton Hall showcased 36 exhibitors including sustainable technology companies, sustainable university research projects, local producers of foods, ales, clothing and organisations that champion and provide advice to everyone interested in cutting their energy bills, producing their own energy, food and 'do their bit' against climate change (see full list of exhibitors below).
The centrepiece of the hall was a show garden demonstrating how to grow food sustainably in a back yard.Children were also able to take part in climate change themed games and activities, including Global Link’s giant climate change board game ‘Dicing With the Future’, designed to make people aware of how their lifestyle choices impact on the climate.

The Sustainability Expo also featured a series of short speaker events and carbon neutral live music occurring throughout the day, a café selling local food and beer from local breweries. The occasional music concerts were either battery or pedal powered.

The Sustainability Exposition was organised by Lancaster-based climate change project LESS (Local and Effective Sustainable Solutions)

Reviews and Comments:

Thank you for all the hard work you and Chris put in to making the One Planet Festival a success.

My colleague and I were kept busy with the interest generated and we both found the other stands and talks informative.

The event seemed to be supported by a lot of dedicated people committed to green issues. Thanks once again.

Kind regards

It was the best event I’ve been to in my 2.5 years with the Forest of Bowland.

Lots of people interested in our work and asking for information and offering to volunteer and/or work with us etc.

Lancaster has a lot of folk who are ‘our type of people’ so I was expecting it to be quite good but it genuinely exceeded my expectations.

Congratulations to all who organised the OPF Expo.

A great day (my family enjoyed it too) and we got a lot of interest in our solar thermal as well as insulation products.

Thank you to Dawn, Chris and the LESS team for organising such a great event - please do it again next year!

From a personal point of view I found the Expo very good as I did not stop speaking to people on my stand throughout the whole day - I fully expect an increase in business as a result.

I thought the event was good value for money and well organised - I would certainly attend again.

My only minor criticism is that a couple of people mentioned that it wasn't easy to find but they were probably non-resident of Lancaster.

Kind regards

Yes, it was worthwhile; our market is not generally focused on “the public” at the moment so didn’t expect a lot – but I ended up making half a dozen useful connections

Yes we would attend again – next year we are likely to be more focused on general public

Worth us investing our time & travel cost, etc.

Well done - & thanks for the invite!

Best Regards

Well I have heard lots of great reviews from the weekend so it was well worth all your effort.

The main think I would like to comment on is way that Piccadilly was promoted in the run up to the event; I can not thank you enough for this.

The turn out to the event also is a huge positive that people genuinely want to be more environmentally friendly and want to find out more, speak to the people with knowledge face to face.

As I was not at the event on the Saturday I asked Scott who looked after our stall to comment- please see below his comments below.

Thanks again for the work you did in getting the whole event together and making it a success.

Great event, lots of interest in our project.

We put a lot of time and energy into the garden but we were well supported and we had a good response from people on the day- so it was well worth it.

The venue was better than any we had been to before, well organised and the publicity for the event was exceptional.

We could honestly not think of one thing that needed improvement!

Well done and it was a pleasure to be a part of the event.
